Can Everyone become a Candidate for Microblading?

Before performing a microblade procedure, make sure to discuss and provide a written pre-procedure information sheet and check to see if the client is a good candidate. The form should include any medical and other pre-existing conditions which may prevent a client from having a procedure. In some cases, a client may need to check with their doctor before having a procedure done.

Here are a few reasons a person may not immediately qualify for a microblading procedure:

  • Are currently pregnant.
  • Have cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.
  • Are on Accutane, antibiotics, iron supplements, anticoagulants, etc.
  • Have an open wound present.
  • Have skin that is extremely thin or severely wrinkled.
  • Have a bacterial or viral infection.
  • Have a history of keloid hypertrophic scarring.

Another important aspect of performing a microblading procedure is to consider the condition of a person’s skin. The canvas on which you are implanting color will determine the results. Great painters know that the outcome of their work depends greatly on the canvas upon which they are painting. The same concept applies to microblading. The skin you are working on is your canvas. An oil painter paints on a canvas generally made from either linen or cotton, natural fibers that are woven together either tightly or loosely, and then stretched over a frame. Each fiber comes in different textures or weights. The texture depends on the weave, so a finely woven canvas is smooth and best suited for small, detailed word. A rough textured canvas is preferred by painters who use different techniques and brush strokes to achieve the desired result. Similarly, a microblade artist needs to consider that a person with skin that has aged rapidly and/or has been sun damaged, may not be a candidate for a microblade procedure. Extremely thin skin may bleed more, not retain the color well and/or may have a slower healing process.
